Intercessory Prayer
JoAnn Chinander and Louise Hrabak are the leaders of Intercessory Prayer.
Intercessory prayer is: prayers for others and prayers for the things God puts on your heart.
Intercessors (people) take situations of other people to God in prayer, because they’ve been asked by others to pray, or because God has placed a burden on their hearts to pray for someone or something.
Intercessors petition before God for someone who is in trouble, someone going through a difficult time, a prodigal son or daughter who has fallen away from God, someone’s sin, wars, safe travel, unity within the church, and community etc. Intercessors are bringing these and other prayers before the Lord as they are led or called by God to pray.
There are MANY examples of intercessors in the bible on account of others:
- Abraham prayed for the people of Sodom. (Genesis 18:16-33.)
- Abraham prayed for King Abimelech, his wife, and maidservants. (Genesis 20:1-18.)
- Moses prayed for Pharaoh. (Exodus 8:28-29)
- Moses prayed for the Hebrew people. (Exodus 32:31-32, Numbers 21:7)
- David prayed for the people of Israel. (2 Samuel 24:17-25)
- David prayed for forgiveness of his sin. (Psalm 51)
- Daniel prayed for the restoration of Israel -- God’s chosen people (Daniel 9).
- Paul prayed for all believers and the church. (Philippians 1:9-11, Colossians 1:9-12, Ephesians 1:17-23, 2 Thessalonians 1:11-12.)
- The church prayed for Peter when he was in jail. (Acts 12:5)
- Jesus prayed for Peter. (Luke22: 31-32)
- Jesus was continually (praying) going to the Father to ask the Father to forgive those who sinned against him. He prayed for those who crucified him. (Luke 23: 33-34)
- Jesus was an intercessor while he was here on earth. He prayed for the sick and people possessed by demons. He prayed for his disciples. He prayed for you and me when he interceded for all those who would believe in him. (John 17)
- He continues to intercede for us in heaven at the right hand of God. (Romans 8:33-34)
- 1 Timothy 2:1-5 exhorts (urges) us to pray for others.
- God spoke to the prophet Isaiah and said, “ For MY house will be called a house of prayer for all the peoples.” (Isaiah 56:7) Jesus said it is written, “My house shall be called a house of prayer.” (Matthew 21:13)
Intercessors are a vital part of any growing church or ministry. Their faithful dedication to intercession creates a foundation that allows the Lord to work in mighty ways.
Louise and JoAnn encourage you to spend time praying for others. Prayers of intercession are powerful!!! The bible records that weather changed, people were released from prison, enemies were defeated, and so much more – as a result of intercessory prayer.
So Remember: Pray always and BELIEVE for results.
